I've Never Done This Before...
With new projects come new opportunities to try something new and exciting!
As I do every year, I start the year off with some ambitious plans. With any luck, 2026 is the year that I can keep them rolling and if how things are going is any indication, I think it can work this year. I’ve seen other creators successfully master the art of overlapping campaigns and I think I may attempt to do so on a smaller scale. Creator Pat Shand has done incredibly well on Kickstarter with pushing a lot of campaigns out over a year. His stuff is usually more in the NSFW realm of Kickstarter and tends to fund quite a lot, which affords him the opportunity to release a lot.
His success in doing so isn’t just because the NSFW genres do so annoyingly well, but because he does an incredible job at project management and relaying progress to the backers. He has used helpful little progress trackers that he keeps updated to let backers know what stage or progress each campaign is in.
On a smaller scale, because my life is crazy busy and also I don’t have NSFW funds, I’m looking at implementing something similar. This way I can tell more stories and also hopefully reduce some of the dead time between campaigns. I have so many scripts in the pipeline, I’ve had to come to terms that some of them will never see the light of day.
Here’s what is going on for this year so far:
Q1
ALICE #1 Redux campaign printing and fullfilment
Long Dark Winter #3 production
Q2
Kaiju Nation #0 Launch
Q3
Tentative launch of another project
Q4
Long Dark Winter #4
Kaiju Nation #0
Kaiju Nation is turning into a fun project for me. It’s a little different than my previous campaigns that tend to delve a little deeper into a darker, heavier style of story telling. Kaiju Nation is more along the lines of something we would have seen in the 1990’s Saturday morning cartoon. Also, I’m pumped for the new season of Monarch!
The series will be an ongoing series that will jump back and forth between past and present timelines exploring the origins of the monsters and how they fit into a world that grows up with them. My plans for this are to build up an entire world around this series and my hopes are that readers will develop favourite Kaiju, similar to Pokemon or Digimon.
As the title of this article suggests, I’m working on something I’ve never done before. To make this world more immersive to readers, I’m also working on trading cards that will be available with each Kickstarter campaign. My first area I’m exploring is more of a game style rather than just collector. I also want to hear from you guys!
Here is a design I’m working with so far.
Let me know what you think on the cards or if there is another collectable you’d also like to see (I would love to one day have Kaiju plushies or action figures)! Leave a comment!
